Stonehouse Community learning centre was created eight years ago to give the people of Stonehouse a chance to access educational and leisure courses in an informal and friendly enviroment. We have 2 rooms, situated in Stonehouse Primary School one of which is a well stocked creche facility, staffed with trained creche workers. We provide creches to make the courses accessable to as many as possible.
Our aim is to encourage people to come a long and try their hand at the introductory level courses on offer and therefore gain the confidence to either apply for courses at the local education colleges or to return to employment.
Over the last few years we have offered the following courses :-
We have also had taster sessions in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Xmas crafts, Womens health, Health and beauty and many more
The group has been relatively inactive over the last 6 months due to a lack of funds but we have been awarded an Internet ready computer by BT community connections which we hope to use to set up a community website. At the moment we are running an introduction to the Internet/ web site creation course. We would appreciate any suggestions for any other courses that residents of Stonehouse and the surrounding area would be interested in.
